Nicolas Cage is back to hunt treasure in his own unique way, as National Treasure 3 is being readied for the end of 2011

It's little surprise that Disney has been planning a third National Treasure movie. The first two put forward Nicolas Cage as the world's least convincing treasure hunter, a man who can solve riddles that have foxed historians for centuries in the time it takes to get to the end of another piece of Trevor Rabin's score. And yet, they were an absolute hoot. Daft? Yep. Over the top? Yep. Scant regard for realism? Check. But entertaining nonetheless.
Nicolas Cage is reteaming already with his National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub for this summer's incoming The Sorcerer's Apprentice movie. Yet, the two are likely to be reunited again before the year is out for their fourth film together, National Treasure 3.
Talking to ComingSoon about the project, Turteltaub has revealed that "I think we start shooting late fall, early winter. Hopefully that's the goal and I think it will come out Christmas 2011. That's assuming everyone is available, the script is good and I haven't thrown a tantrum." He played down potential clashes with another Cage project that may start running soon, Ghost Rider 2, insisting that "he'll make both".
