This film is one of the things that make me truly admire about Nic. His bravery.I think this is a very "daring" role for someone of Nics status to take.the issues such as the child abuse, bad language etc..I think alot of leading actors would pass on this sort of part because of its content and the "patheticness" of the lead actor but Nic just pulls it off and can go from playing these sort of loser type characters (like the twins in Adaptation)to "heroes" such as Johnny Blaze and the character he plays National Treasure (Sorry, cannot remember his name at the mo).
This film kinda reminds me of the Woody Allen type neurosis stuff and I think works really well but I can understand why it may be a "turnoff" for mainstream audiences. A rather pathetic review on IMDB really slated it saying it wasnt "nice" and that she thought it would be like "Family Man"...why???just because it had "man" in the title!!!
All of you guys have hit it on the nail with your observations of this movie. It's one of my favorite Nic flicks. The only thing I didn't care for is the constant use of the F word. Sometimes it's called for, other times I just think it's overused for shock value only. Anyway, I don't know why this movie didn't garner better reviews and a wider audience!

I saw it about a month ago. Definitely one of my NC's favs. Humour? Well, i'm not so sure about it, I loved it because it treated everyday life, problems which emerge while trying to be a good son, a good dad and a good citizen while managing to just be yourself. How tiring it is to change masks and attitude every other minute! I felt it so personal, so close. Great act.
I liked this one....a friend of mine was like "that's not his real hair" since his hair didn't have the curve it usually has........like he has in Ghost Rider....but I think he looks sexy with or without that little hair line
This is one of my favourites. Plenty of comedy moments and a lot of pathos too. I so felt for Dave when he kept getting hit with fast food and for his somewhat akward relationship with his father, who he loves, and who is dying. I was so pleased when Dave punches that pervert who is hitting on his son and was moved when Dave has his little chat with daughter Shelley about being bullied at school.
Uplifting moments...
Dave getting shagged dressed as Abe Lincoln! Lol.
Dave calling Noreen's boyfriend a ''fat *******'' and a ''dildo''! LMAO!
Dave laying down the gauntlet by slapping Noreen's boyfriend with his glove!
i love this movie, i love the humor, i love when he beats the crap out of that monster....his dad is at that point in life where he knows what is truely important while david is still trying to make his father proud
