Season of the Witch Release Bumped to 2011
Nicholas Cage's Season of the Witch Release Bumped to 2011

The marketing campaign for Lionsgate's Season of the Witch started last November with TV spots that proclaimed, "Halloween is for amateurs; see you next spring." Spring came and with the movie's March 19 release date looming, Lionsgate postponed it, without giving an alternative release date or a reason for the delay. Speculation suggested Lionsgate was trying to avoid a packed March 19 weekend and proximity with the April opening of Kick-Ass, which shared star Nicolas Cage. Eight months later, Season of the Witch finally has its release date.

ShockTillYouDrop has learned that Lionsgate plans to release the movie on January 7, 2011, during the start of a two month stretch largely considered Hollywood's post-holiday burial ground. However, genre movies often fare well during this time of year and, clearly, this is Lionsgate's gamble.

Season of the Witch reunites Cage with his Gone in 60 Seconds director Dominic Sena, in a story about a 14-century knight (Cage, clad in long-haired wig and American accent) who must transport a suspected witch to a monastery. Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Chrisopher Lee co-star.
