The 45-year-old actor, who won an Oscar for 1996's Leaving Las Vegas, has signed up to star in The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, says the Hollywood Reporter.

The movie, to be directed by Roger Donaldson, follows a man who becomes involved in an underground vigilante movement after his wife is the victim of a violent crime.

Cage and his co-stars - who have yet to be announced - will start shooting the flick in New Orleans early next year.
