I suppose then religion does pay an important factor in the decision making, for one I have no religion or beliefs to be honest, ok granted I believe in all this after life, god, spirits etc, but I'm not a devout christian, I don't really attend church as such, which I suppose I should do a bit more often, the only times I do is for weddings, christenings, funerals and I do attend the spiritulist church, but that doesn't count as being a religion as suchhmm over here is ilegal to do such a thing to end a life quick, that's why people who are seriously ill, tend to fly out to countries which its not frowned upon, it did happen to my cousin, he wanted to end his life sooner for what he had there was no cureno wether or not he did go through with ithmm

I'm so sorry about your cousin, I hope he is where he wants to be now and happy.......

Yep, for me...if ever in that situation and only being kept alive by machines and medication, I would want the choice to go out on my own terms instead of having to wait while the body stifles/traps the soul within.  But then again, would my religion stop me...would it be seen as an act of damnation by god?

Interesting subject Darcy!, that I suppose is hard to answer as I haven't come across it as yet, but I suppose if by chance it did happen to me, illness I mean which would be difficult to cure eg Cancer, then would i have the guts to go through the pain and suffering and seeing family and friends suffer, or would I take the easy option of cutting life short!! I suppose it's hard to answer that until the time comes, bearing in mind the difficult pain of having to choose that way, it's just something I haven't thought about to be honest, I try to live each day as it comes and god forbid if something like that crosses my path one day, I hope that I have the courage to do what's besthmm

Hiya Nicsters, I just read an article on assisted suicide and I was moved and it really made me think...what would I do if in a situation such as this?  And I did some research into the process and came out with an understanding and agreement of the process.   Think about it, if you were dying, be it some terrible thing or just natural age, would you not want to go on your own peaceful terms or be kept alive, especially if you had something like cancer that destroyed your body but  your mind was still sharp and intact?  I believe in free will, its OUR minds, soul and body.  This subject really moved me and I wish a movie would or could be done about the subject...as its such an interesting topic/subject with many people who have many different ideas as too it.  Thoughts?

Oh and here is the article I read: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/03/06/uk.assisted.suicide/index.html
