I'm guessing that they added to the story because i can't imagine a security guy saying get lost to someone, unless they were being harrassing. anyway, i have heard that many celebs do not sign autographs or do pics when they are with their spouses or family. they do signings more when they are alone or with their publicist. There are many stories of Nicolas Cage signing autographs or doing pics with people and being very nice to his fans for many years. including taking the time to come out to talk to Corelli and her husband in London. His reputation is more of being nice to his fans, he's one of the few that does that. Celebs and their publicists know that is part of it, that they have to be nice to their fans if they want to continue to have high ratings in the movies and people going to see them. Nicolas knows that. Also though, when a celeb's security tells people that the celeb will not take a pic or do an autograph that is by the instructions of the celeb because the security is employed by the celeb and just doing what they were told to do. Though this particular one acted more harshly according to that article. that is If its even true that he said that, you never know whats really true when you read it in the press. also there are past stories i've read of Nicolas even being nice to fans when they interrupted his meals at restaurants, and such, he has been known to be nice to fans and all people.
I agree Lula, there is no mention of Nic being agressive or anything of that sort. It seems to be just the bodyguard, and because he is associated with Nic, they are putting the blame onto Nic etc etc, which to me is really pathetic! They really need to get their facts right before passing the blame,
i agree with you all. I just want to add, it won't be Nic who has made an 'unfortunate impression', but the media running these kind of stories who create it. This article is a classic example of how linguistics create a certain reality. The article is so loaded with negative bias, that the impression you are left with is so far removed from the probable facts.. 'slipping into screening', 'cruising around' the shopping mall, 'grandiosity', all paint a picture of a kind of careless snobbish luxury, and 'kooky' 'quirky', 'unfortunate impression' imply Nic is stand offish and has somehow alienated himself. Where does this 'chequered history with fans' come from? The truth is, Nic is known for his patience, politeness and kindness with fans. The only time he reportedly has ever lost his rag is when his privacy has been rudely invaded. I'm just wondering exactly how this fan approached the situation, for the body guard to react this way, if indeed he did at all.

I wouldn't mind but it was the bodyguard...NOT Nicky...who had the run in with the guy and even then we've only heard one side of it. More than likely this guy was one of those morons that approach stars like a bull in a china shop shoving a camera into their face and not saying please or thank you! If so then no wonder the bodyguard was pissed off!
I agree with both of you, It was their night out, and people should respect that, personally I wouldn't like it, It's nice just to be treated normal, I bet at times Nic wishes that, just to go out , have a nice time and not have idiots keep coming up asking for autographs all the time.
I just sent this message to their message board...
I met Nicolas Cage here in London last July and he and his bodyguards were very NICe and kind. It's unfair to slate Nic because of this one off incident because let's face it the guy who approached Nic was in the wrong...he was in his working environment and Nic and Alice were on a private night out and any decent fan would know not to approach a star in that environment! Most people who wrongly judge Nic aren't fans and have never met him...this is just another excuse to slag Nic off in the press! I doubt you'll even print this comment!
