Hollywood star Nicolas Cage nearly lost his face after a prop bomb accidentally blew up near him onset.

The actor was filming action movie Windtalkers when the explosive detonated - and burned off his facial hair.

He recalls, "My face almost melted off when a movie stunt went wrong. I was shooting Windtalkers in 2002 and there was a moment where I was going to be bombed pretty badly.

"Everything is very safe on location, but sometimes nature just takes over. The wind suddenly changed direction, I was very close to the bomb and, when it went off, all this fire shot towards my face. I could feel my eyebrows and hair burning."

"I was completely stupefied but instinctively threw myself out of the way within a split second. If I hadn't done that my face would be very different to the one I have today."

Rosemary: hmm... so it's not only Jackie Chan that gets hurt.
