It's best to go with a lighter shade the older we get...old people with very dark hair look gross! Lol. But...as I'm neither 80 or got black hair I'm fine! Lol!
Oh, I'm not saying he shouldn't take on more controversial material. What I'm saying is that I hope he picks some sort of subject matter that will appeal to more of the masses so that more people can see his 'brilliance'. I think he'd blow people out of the water if he found some material to work with that was more palatable to the masses.

I've never seen Sonny but I am amazed that people are shocked by the subject of the movie!
8MM was another of Nicky's movies/roles that some fans didn't like! He's an actor for crying out loud...he can't play the sugar and spice stuff all the time!
I think Nic shouldn't pull his punches and take on more controversial roles...we did discuss this in another thread and I said then that playing contoversial characters has done nothing to harm the careers of the likes of Gary Oldman and Kevin Bacon.
Yeah, I can imagine many fans going like WTF after seeing the movie... But thatīs great too, that he still can shock people... Did you know that he once seriouly considered having two stage names in order not to mislead audiences? He was going for Miles Lovecraft for the darker, more arty stuff, and sticking with Nic Cage for the commercial movies. His PR people talked him out of it, and he abandonned the idea.
I'd like to see him try a different vein of material. Maybe not quite so controversial of a theme. I think then.....his directing would get more notice and more of an audience. It's sad, but not everyone can handle such blatant material no matter how good the movie.
In fact I know a few die hard Nic fans who absolutely HATED the movie Sonny because of the theme. And it's pretty hard to alienate a die hard Nicfan, ya know?

I was amazed to find that Sonny was showing on my cable TV 'On demand free movies' last night. I ended up watching the whole thing again and was also surprised to see that they didn't cut anything out of the flick. Which.....all things considering....there was some um.....rather delicate material....in the flick. Anyhooo......I was again blown away by the performances in the movie. Nic sure could bring out the nuances in his actors. I'm really hoping he directs something again soon..........
