It doesn't make me want to see their films.  It just makes me smile and believe that they just might be an honorable human being!

i think that when a celeb goes out of their way for a fan no matter what it is from talking with them for a moment, or like what John Travolta did, that it makes the public like them even more as it shows the human side of them and shows they can come off of their pedestals and be just like everyone else and human.  I love when i hear things like that. It makes me want to go to see their films.

Tis true!  They could have sat back, flipped on CNN and watched the news while eating Bonbons.

OH gads.....my mind just went haywire on that visual......

No watching TV allowed while eating a Bonbon.........LOL!

OMG.....Get me outta the gutter......HELP!  I'm burying myself......

Whatever the reasons they still got off their backsides and helped!

I guess they can't win...if the don't do anything they're criticised and if they do they're accused of doing it for their own benefits!

Yes....what they did was admirable.

But, I love it in particular when celebrities aren't quite so 'visible' when they do things like that.

The bruhaha that Penn and Travolta garnered at the time made me think that their PR agents decided it might be a good thing to 'leak' out.

There was just too much press on them and their stories to make me think it was completely done out of the goodness of their hearts.

Then again....if you get celebrities involved.....it does generate more involvement from others.

Guess it's always a double edged sword for celebrities.......even in doing good works....

I totally agree with you Bon...anyone can throw money at a problem but actually DOING something and making an effort is extra special.

I don't want to get into politics here but look at Sean Penn and John Travolta and his missus when hurricane Katrina hit.
They actually got off their backsides and went down to The Big Easy to help out.
JT even flew supplies in in his own plane!
I really admire them for that.biggrinwink

That is truly very, very, very cool!   I am always impressed when I hear that a celebrity has gone out of his/her way to do something nice for their fans or for a good cause (like sick children....).

I think that,  in actuallity....doing something nice for others....keeps them grounded and more down to earth.

It's in the 'DOING' that people get a real sense of satisfaction.  For instance, giving money to a good cause when you have tons of it..... is very nice, even admirable.  But DOING something with your personal time and effort (not just signing a check) brings something very satifying back to oneself.

That's why I love organizations like Habitat for Humanity.  If someone who has everything gets down right down and dirty building homes for very less fortunate souls and lives life they way they live it (if only for a little while) it can only open them up to God's grace (My opinion, I know).

Anyhoo....the Osmonds just went up a coppola notches in my respect meter finding this out about them!

Well...some fans do get their dreams to come true!smile

I was watching a tv documentary about the Osmonds a Coppola years ago.
They were talking about what they're all doing nowadays anyway the brothers said that they have a small group of dedicated women fans from England who they invite over to the states once a year!
The brothers spend a day with these fans, take them out to dinner then the fans see the Osmonds in concert!

How cool is that!biggrinwink

LOL!   Um.....I'm sure you have me beat in meeting famous people.  My only claim to 'fame' is that I sat at the table of a Chinese woman newscaster during a benefit for a children's organization I was on the board of here in Chicago....

LOL!  It Was fun to see that chair!

I bet just as Ben (Nic) is named for a historical figure in the movie so is the character Thomas (prob Thomas Jefferson).  It did give me a chuckle tho!

I just checked out the IMDB site for NT2 and had a bit of a giggle.  You know how my name is Ben here?  Well.....Ben is short for my full name.  They are my real initials.  Anyhoo.....according to someone on the IMDB site there is going to be a character named Thomas in NT2.  Thomas is supposedly Ben's brother in the movie.

Um folks!   I'm giggling over here cuz um.....my husband's name is Thomas!

Do do do do do do..........

Anyone else laughing or scratching their heads like me?   LOL!

Ah.....I love coincidences.
