RE: Nic OUT of Capone/another blurb

Hmmmm.......bad script?   I'd drop out of the project too if there was a bad script to work with.

IMHO, Nic needs a really strong role to sink his teeth into.  To stretch his acting chops, so to speak.

The other night I caught Leaving Las Vegas on cable for the first time in years and saw the Nic Cage actor that mesmerized me in the first place.  Then I watched Adaptation a few days later and was astounded once again with what Nic can pull out of his hat when given wonderful material and a serious CHALLENGE.

That's why I was so happy to hear Nic would play Capone for DePalma.

But, if the script is bad.................I'd rather see Nic take a pass!

Nicolas CageA couple weeks back we reported that Nicolas Cage had signed  on to star in The Untouchables prequel. His name was listed on a marketing concept advertisement aimed for Cannes buyers, and MTV confirmed the fact with his publicists (or at least someone official). Well now Variety is reporting that Cage will not be in the film afterall. Apparently talks ended because of scheduling issues. Yeah right. Principal photography will begin in October 2007. Cage is currently filming National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which is due out in December. This means the film will end production months before then. And get this, Cage is not yet officially attached to a film after that. So Im guessing that whole scheduling conflict reasoning is just the pr speak for bad script or something worse.

Cage says no to Untouchables
Nicolas Cage has backed out of negotiations to star in Brian De Palma's prequel to The Untouchables, citing scheduling conflicts. It was reported on May 13 that Cage was in talks to play a young Al Capone in the upcoming movie. Separately, an announcement was made at Cannes that Gerard Butler, star of 300, has joined the cast of the prequel as Detective Jimmy Malone, the role that earned Sean Connery a best supporting actor Oscar in De Palma's 1987 original. The prequel will follow Capone's rise to power and his relationship with Malone. Cage is currently shooting National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which also stars Helen Mirren and Harvey Keitel and is scheduled for a December release. It is unknown what he has planned after that movie wraps. (Variety)
